Varsity Field Hockey Tops Thomas Jefferson in OT

Carolyn Macek recorded 7 first half saves in helping Centreville escape at Thomas Jefferson with a 2-1 OT victory. The game was scoreless at half-time, but in the second half, Centreville took advantage of some fast breaks by the front line of Alex Peterson, Stacey McCormack, and Haili Hartman.  Five minutes into the second half, on a penalty corner, Susie Lesniewski passed to Hartman for the score, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.  TJ turned on the pressure, though, and was able to earn a tying goal with 9 minutes left in the half, after playing four consecutive penalty corners. The Wildcats took 6 shots in 3.5 minutes of overtime before putting the 7th in the goal for the win -- McCormack passed to Hartman for the winning goal. On defense, Macek (11 saves for the game) was helped by great performances by Rachel Behne and Vicky LaLiberte.
