Varsity Edges Out Stuart 3-2 on Senior Night

The Varsity Wildcats were able to secure a win with 48 seconds remaining in the game. Centreville had 10 penalty corners and 12 shots on goal compared to Stuart's 1 penalty corner and 2 shots on goal. However, Stuart was able to keep the game close. Stuart scored first, just 8 minutes into the game, when an unmarked player's shot got past Centreville goalie Maggie Montgomery. The Wildcats countered with a breakaway pass from Molly MacDonnell to Alex Peterson with 9 minutes remaining. Stuart scored again with 5:48 remaining in the half, when a player inside the circle lifted the ball high, and another player "baseball hit" it into the goal past Carolyn Macek's head.

Centreville tied the game again with 9:19 remaining in the second half, when Stacey McCormack connected on a penalty corner. As the game wound down it appeared as though it would head into overtime, until the Wildcats passed the ball upfield from one player to the next, landing on Alex Peterson's stick for the shot and score with only 48 seconds before the whistle.
