The Centreville Cross Country team foreshadowed a promising future this past weekend with both the freshman boys and girls teams taking first place at The Stampede Cross Country Classic in Lorton. Freshman Bobby Dunn took the first place medal with an impressive 18:08 finishing time. Following Dunn in the Top 10 were Andrew Yow (4th), Presley Day (7th), and Marco Lim (10th). Jackie O’Shea led the girls team finishing 2nd at 20:19. Also receiving a medal are: Natalie King (5th), McKinsey Smith (7th), Christina Makhlouf (8th), and Isabella Muzo (9th). Junior, Rebecca Vintner, had a very strong race placing 4th in the Girls Varsity A race with a time of 19:59. Additionally, the girls JV race had three strong finishers: junior Elizabeth Ellis (13th), senior Kimberly Ona (19th), and junior Sabetta Singh (21st). Senior Chris Jones placed 20th in the Boys Varsity A race with a strong time of 17:51. Other impressive finishers were: Boys Varsity B, junior Eric Mayer (41st) and Boys JV, junior Stephen Yu (37th).
Closer to home the Wildcats have continued to place multiple finishers in the top ten at Concorde District Meets. On October 5 at Lake Fairfax the Lady Wildcats placed first and second with senior Emily McLenigan and sophomore Kylie Cuomo. Three others finished in the top ten: Maya Munoz (6th), McKinsey Smith (7th), and Sydney Pryor (8th). The boys took three places in the top ten: Marco Lim (6th), Sean Nguyen (7th), and Daniel Molina (9th). On October 11, at the third Concorde District Meet at Burke Lake, both the boys and girls team placed first: senior Chris Jones and sophomore Joanna Ahn. Indeed, the top three finishers in the boys race were all CVHS Wildcats with junior Chan Young Lee and freshman Bobby Dunn following. Other top finishers for the boys were: Garbriel Kushin (5th), Evan Wollins (7th), Fernando Muzzo (8th), and Calvin Jones (10th). The girls also held tight to the finish with Ahn followed by: Emily McLenigan (3rd), Kylie Cuomo (4th), Rebecca Vinter (6th), McKensey Smith (7th), and Maya Munoz (10th). Runners of the Week were juniors Joanna Ahn and Calvin Jones.
The Centreville Cross Country team competed in the Dobson Double Duals at Lake Fairfax on Wednesday, October 19. The Freshman/Sophomore Girls Race showed the Wildcats’ top placements: Natalie King (8th), McKinsey Smith (10th), and Christina Makhlouf (13th). Andrew Yow finished in 11th, Presley Day in 13th, and Dean Dickinson in 17th place were the top 3 CVHS runners in the Freshman/Sophomore Boys division. Top 3 CVHS finishers for the Junior/Senior Boys Race were Daniel Molina in 15th place, Calvin Jones in 19th and Sean Ngyuen in 26th. Finishing strong for the girls Junior/Senior division were Kara Perdue with 18th place, Elizabeth Ellis with 22nd place and Elizabeth Carpenter in 28th. The top times for the boys were: senior Daniel Molina (18:27), junior Calvin Jones (18:36), freshman Andrew Yow (18:37), freshman Presley Day (18:41), and sophomore Dean Dickinson (18:54). The top times for the girls were: freshman Natalie King (22:07), McKinsey Smith (22:13), Christina Makhlouf (22:29), Isabella Muzo (22:32), and junior Kara Perdue (23:40).
The Wildcat's top seven boys and girls are now gearing up to compete in the Concorde District Championships this Thursday, October 27th, at Burke Lake Park. Representing the Wildcats are: Chan Young Lee, Chris Jones, Bobby Dunn, Gabriel Rushkin, Andrew Yow, Kip Talman, and Daniel Molina for the boys, and Rebecca Vintner, Jackie O'Shea, Joanna Ahn, Emily McLenigan, Kylie Cuomo, Natalie King, and McKinsey Smith for the girls.
